WHOIS Lookup
Registration data for any domain or IP block, fetched via RDAP — the modern HTTPS-based replacement for WHOIS.
What is WHOIS?

A protocol for asking who registered something.
WHOIS is a query/response protocol used to look up the registered owners of a domain name, IP address block, or autonomous system. The data includes registrar, registration and expiration dates, name servers, and (sometimes redacted) contact info.
This tool uses RDAP (Registration Data Access Protocol), the modern HTTPS-based replacement for WHOIS. Queries are routed via rdap.org to the registrar or registry's own RDAP server. Responses are returned as structured JSON. Most TLDs and IP regional registries support RDAP today.
Frequently asked
Why is most WHOIS contact data hidden now?
Since GDPR took effect in 2018, registrars redact personal registrant details for most domains. You will usually see the registrar, key dates and status, but not the owner's name or email.
What is RDAP, and how does it differ from WHOIS?
RDAP is the modern, structured (JSON over HTTPS) replacement for the old free-text WHOIS protocol. This tool uses RDAP, so results are consistent and machine-readable.
What does a status like clientTransferProhibited mean?
These are EPP status codes set by the registrar.
clientTransferProhibited, for example, locks the domain against transfer — a common anti-hijacking measure. They are informational, not errors.
